Former Akal Takht Jathedar challenges Sukhbir Badal, calls ‘conspiracy’ claim an insult to Sikh traditions

Amritsar: Former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has strongly challenged Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal over his claim that the December 2, 2024 decision of Sri Akal Takht Sahib was part of a conspiracy.

In a video message, Raghbir Singh said Badal should repeat the allegation at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the Panj Pyare, and prove it before the sangat. He asserted that he would be ready to face any punishment if the claim is established.

Reacting to Badal’s recent statement alleging that the ‘tankhah’ (religious punishment) pronounced against him was part of a conspiracy, the former Jathedar said such remarks amount to a serious violation of the traditions and maryada of Sri Akal Takht.

He stated that on December 2, 2024, in the presence of the sangat and Sri Guru Granth Sahib, five Singh Sahibans had pronounced the ‘tankhah’ only after Badal and his associates accepted the allegations levelled against them.

He added that the punishment was accepted and carried out at the time, making it unjustified to term it a conspiracy now, long after the event.
