Chandigarh: Former IAS officer Kanwaljit Singh Cheema joined the Shiromani Akali Dal on Thursday in the presence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Welcoming Cheema into the party, Badal described his induction as a significant addition to the organisation. He said Cheema had closely worked with former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and played a key role in implementing his vision and decisions.
“Cheema was like a shadow of Badal Sahib and was always by his side during his tenure,” Badal said, adding that experienced administrators joining the party would further strengthen its cadre.
The development is being seen as part of the party’s efforts to expand its base ahead of upcoming political challenges in the state.
