New Delhi: Former MP and suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna was convicted on Friday by a special court in Bengaluru in one of the four sexual assault and rape cases registered against him. Special court judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat said the quantum of sentence would be pronounced on Saturday.

The case relates to the rape of a 48-year-old woman employed at the Revanna family’s Gannikada farmhouse in Holenarasipura, Hassan district. She alleged that she was raped twice in 2021 and that Prajwal had recorded the acts on his mobile phone.

Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda, is facing charges in four separate cases of rape and sexual assault. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to investigate the allegations.

The matter came to light ahead of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26, 2024, after pen-drives containing obscene videos allegedly linked to Revanna surfaced in Hassan. He was arrested by the SIT upon his arrival at Bengaluru airport from Germany on May 31 last year in connection with a case registered at Holenarasipura Town police station.

Following the registration of the cases, the JD(S) suspended Revanna from the party.
