Mandi: Heavy rains triggered landslides and flash floods in Mandi district in the early hours of Tuesday, causing widespread destruction to government and private property. Four people are reported missing, while two have been rescued.
The incident occurred in Baragata village of Boye panchayat in Nihri tehsil of Sundarnagar subdivision, where five members of a family were buried after a landslide struck their house.
Villagers launched an immediate rescue operation and managed to pull out two people with serious injuries. Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A joint rescue team of locals, police and disaster management personnel is searching for the remaining three people feared trapped under the debris. Officials said rescue efforts are being hampered by incessant rainfall and unstable soil conditions.
