New Delhi: Galgotias University has issued a public apology after facing backlash over the display of a Chinese-made robotic dog at the recently held India AI Impact Summit 2026.
In a press release, the university said the confusion was caused by an “ill-informed” representative at its pavilion who provided factually incorrect information while speaking on camera.
The controversy erupted after a robotic dog labelled “Orion” was showcased at the summit and initially presented as a product developed by the university’s Centre of Excellence. However, social media users pointed out that the robot resembled the ‘Unitree Go2’, manufactured by Chinese firm Unitree Robotics.

In its statement, the university clarified that the staff member was unaware of the technical origins of the product and was not authorised to speak to the press. “In her enthusiasm of being on camera, she gave factually incorrect information,” the release stated.
Galgotias University said there was no institutional intent to misrepresent the innovation and reiterated its commitment to academic integrity, transparency and responsible representation of its work. The university added that it has vacated the premises in line with the organisers’ sentiment following the controversy.
The episode had triggered political reactions and online criticism, raising questions about transparency in technology showcases at high-profile AI events.
