German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to visit India next week to boost trade and strategic ties

New Delhi: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will visit India next week for a two-day trip aimed at strengthening trade, investment, defence, and security ties between the two countries.

According to information released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will welcome the German leader in Ahmedabad on 12 January. This will be Merz’s first visit to India as Chancellor, during which he will also tour Bengaluru, the country’s IT capital.

The MEA said the visit will give fresh momentum to ongoing high-level political engagements and provide an important opportunity to reaffirm the shared vision between India and Germany. The talks are expected to further strengthen the future-oriented partnership between the two nations.

Officials noted that the visit will benefit citizens of both countries and hold significance for the global community as well.
