Jalandhar: A grand shobha yatra was taken out on Saturday from Sri Guru Ravidas Mandir in the Basti Danishmandan area to mark the prakash purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji. The procession witnessed large participation from devotees and prominent political and social figures.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal specially arrived to take part in the programme. He paid obeisance at the temple, sought blessings, and interacted with members of the sangat present in large numbers. Extending greetings to people on the occasion, Badal said the entire humanity should follow the path shown by Sri Guru Ravidas Ji, which emphasises equality, compassion and social harmony.
The management committee of Sri Guru Ravidas Mandir accorded a warm welcome to Sukhbir Singh Badal and honoured him for his presence at the religious event.
Former Youth Akali Dal president Sukhminder Singh Rajpal also reached the Basti area on a short notice. Several leaders and public representatives, including Mahinder Singh KP, Iqbal Singh Dhindsa, former MP Sushil Kumar Rinku, former MLA Sheetal Angural, Nirvair Singh Sajan, Lucky Malhotra, Yogesh Malhotra, Amandeep Singh Bajwa, Vijay Kumar Meeta and Manpreet Singh Prince, were also present.
Leaders from different political backgrounds, cutting across party lines, participated in the event. Former MP Sushil Kumar Rinku and former MLA Sheetal Angural were specially acknowledged for rising above party politics to welcome and honour the guests.
Committees of various temples and religious bodies also extended their support and participated in the celebrations, reflecting the spirit of unity and collective reverence associated with the teachings of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji.
