Gandhinagar: In a significant move ahead of the 2027 assembly elections, the BJP in Gujarat has revamped almost the entire state government, retaining only Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. On Thursday, 16 ministers resigned, and on Friday, 26 ministers were sworn in.
The new cabinet includes 19 first-time ministers, while only six from the previous government have retained their posts. The reshuffle reflects social diversity, with eight OBCs, three SCs, four STs, and three women included. Eight ministers, including CM Patel, belong to the Patel community.
Notably, the outgoing ministers faced no allegations or legal cases, suggesting the changes are strategically aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the next assembly polls.
CM Bhupendra Patel distributed the portfolios on Thursday evening. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi retained the Home Department, Kanubhai Desai was given the Finance portfolio, and Rivaba Jadeja, wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, was appointed as Education Minister.
