Chandigarh: A case of alleged illegal sale of 44 marlas of land belonging to Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali’s Phase-8 area has come to light, prompting swift action by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The gurdwara’s manager, Rajinder Singh Tohra, has been suspended with immediate effect.
SGPC president Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said efforts are underway to get the land registry and mutation cancelled. He said the Mohali Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the local tehsildar have been approached in this regard.
Dhami said the matter came to the SGPC’s notice on Wednesday, following which a preliminary inquiry was conducted. “The manager has admitted to the sale. The land was sold to four individuals,” he said.
The SGPC president also announced the constitution of a committee to conduct a detailed investigation into the entire episode. “A thorough probe is being carried out. Whoever is found responsible will face strict action. No one will be spared,” Dhami asserted.
Further action will be taken based on the findings of the committee, while the SGPC has maintained that gurdwara properties cannot be alienated under any circumstances without proper authority.
