HC directs SC Commission not to interfere in FIR against Raja Warring

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday directed the Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes not to intervene in a police case registered against Congress president and MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. The court, while hearing Warring’s plea, also issued a notice to the Punjab government seeking its response.

The matter relates to remarks Warring allegedly made during the Tarn Taran bypoll on November 2, which the Scheduled Castes Commission termed derogatory and casteist against the late former Union Home Minister Buta Singh.

Following this, the commission summoned Warring and sought a report from Punjab Police, leading to the registration of an FIR on November 4.

Senior advocate Bipin Ghai, appearing for Warring in the court of Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri, said in the plea that the commission took suo motu cognisance of politically motivated remarks which had no legal basis.
