HC reserves order on Majithia’s bail plea in disproportionate assets case

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has reserved its order on the bail petition of former Punjab Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in the disproportionate assets case.

The court completed hearing arguments from both sides over nearly 13 days and the verdict can be pronounced anytime.

The case was registered by the state Vigilance Bureau on June 25 alleging that Majithia acquired assets almost 1200% more than his declared income.

The probe agency said he illegally amassed property worth more than Rs 700 crore through money laundering of Rs 540 crore linked to a 2013 drug smuggling network.

Meanwhile, the Mohali district court has issued an arrest warrant against Majithia’s brother-in-law Gajpat Singh Garewal after he failed to appear for questioning. The Vigilance said charges against the Majithia will be framed on November 26.
