High Court stays Punjab’s land pooling policy for four weeks

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday stayed the implementation of the Punjab government’s ‘Land Pooling Policy’ for four weeks, dealing a major blow to the state administration.

A division bench comprising Justices Anupinder Singh Grewal and Deepak Manchanda passed the order, rejecting the state government’s arguments in support of the policy. The court directed the Punjab government to file its response within four weeks.

The land pooling policy, which the state government had promoted as a pro-farmer initiative, has faced opposition from several farmer groups. Many have raised concerns, terming it anti-farmer and accusing the government of pushing the scheme without proper consultation.

The temporary stay by the court comes amid growing public resistance, with farmers intensifying their protests against the policy in recent weeks.
