High Court takes suo moto notice of kabaddi player Rana Balachauria’s murder in Mohali

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the murder of kabaddi player Rana Balachauria in Mohali.

The court inquired whether proper permission was obtained for the match and how many police personnel were deployed outside the venue. A response has been sought from the DGP. The next hearing is scheduled for January 15.

The incident occurred on December 15 during a Kabaddi Cup in Sohana, Mohali. Two youths, under the pretext of taking selfies, assaulted Rana Balachauria by hitting him on the face and then shooting him in the head. He was rushed to Fortis Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Following the incident, the Bambiha gang claimed responsibility, alleging that Rana Balachauria was supporting a rival faction. However, Rana’s father stated that his son had no links with any gangs and that people were using his name to gain notoriety.
