Chandigarh: The Punjab government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the collapse of three floodgates at Madhopur Head Works during recent floods.
A five-member expert committee, chaired by AK Bajaj, has been formed by the State Dam Safety Organisation to conduct an impartial investigation.
Ahead of the probe, the water resources department suspended three officials — Gurdaspur axion Nitin Sood, SDO Arun Kumar and JE Sachin Thakur — to prevent any influence on the inquiry.
The incident occurred on August 27 when heavy floods in the Ravi river damaged the floodgates, sweeping away one employee in the water. The committee will now examine the cause of the collapse and suggest preventive measures.
