Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has ordered action against a 2020-batch Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service (HPAS) officer after her social media posts endorsing commercial products went viral.
Oshin Sharma, currently serving as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Urban), Shimla, came under scrutiny after images and videos showing her promoting supplements and jewellery surfaced online, triggering sharp public reactions.
Confirming the development, Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta said the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, has been directed to issue a warning to the officer and advise her to refrain from such activities in future.
Posts removed after backlash
The controversy escalated after the promotional content gained traction on social media, drawing criticism and prompting the government to take note. Following the backlash, Sharma deleted the posts and subsequently deactivated her social media accounts.
The officer has previously been known for sharing motivational and informational content on her platforms. However, the recent endorsements sparked debate over the conduct and neutrality expected from serving administrative officers.
