Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set up a committee to resolve the ongoing Asia Cup trophy dispute between India and Pakistan. During the Annual General Meeting held in Dubai on Friday, officials said that both countries should reach a mutual understanding over the matter.
ICC Board members highlighted that India and Pakistan hold significant importance in the cricketing world and should address their issues amicably. The board also expressed its willingness to act as an arbitrator if required.
The controversy began after India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup final on September 28 but declined to receive the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi, who also serves as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and Pakistan’s Home Minister, had presented the trophy.
India’s decision came as a mark of protest against the Pahalgam terror attack. Following the incident, Naqvi took the trophy to a Dubai hotel but later left it at the ACC office before returning to Pakistan.
