Independent candidate Navneet Chaturvedi’s Rajya Sabha nomination rejected

CHANDIGARH: Independent candidate Navneet Chaturvedi’s nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha bypoll were rejected by Punjab Returning Officer Ram Lok on Tuesday during the scrutiny process. Chaturvedi said he would challenge the decision in the high court.

According to officials, as many as 10 AAP MLAs submitted a written statement to the Returning Officer denying that they had proposed Chaturvedi’s name as a candidate. The MLAs have also filed cases against him in Ropar, Moga, Ludhiana, and Sardulgarh, and lodged a written complaint with the Punjab DGP.

With Chaturvedi’s nomination rejected, AAP’s official candidate Rajinder Gupta and his wife Madhu are now in the fray for the October 24 elections. Madhu is expected to withdraw her nomination on Thursday, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 16.
