India and South Africa teams arrive in Chandigarh for second T20; security stepped up

CHANDIGARH: The Indian and South African cricket teams arrived in Chandigarh this afternoon for the second T20 International of the five-match series, scheduled to be played on December 11 at the Maharaja Yadvinder Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Earlier, officials had said the squads would land around 5 pm, but both teams reached the city around 2 pm and proceeded directly to their hotels.

As the teams checked in at Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Centric, preparations at the stadium entered the final stage. Police officials conducted a detailed security review to ensure smooth movement of spectators and players on match day. Special surveillance cameras are being installed across the ground and at all entry gates.

Punjab Police Special DGP (Law and Order) will hold a press conference at 3.45 pm today to outline the security plan for the high-profile match.

India currently lead the T20I series 1–0 after defeating South Africa by 101 runs in the opening match held on December 9 at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. After the Chandigarh fixture, both teams will depart for Dharamsala on December 12 by charter flight. The third T20I will be played there on December 14.
