India beat Korea 4-1 to win Asia Cup hockey title, team gets grand welcome in Amritsar

Amritsar: The Indian men’s hockey team received a grand welcome at Amritsar Airport on Monday after defeating defending champions Korea 4-1 in the final of the Asia Cup hockey tournament. With this victory, India clinched the Asia Cup title for the fourth time and secured a spot in next year’s World Cup.

In the final, Dilpreet Singh scored twice, while Sukhjeet Singh and Amit Rohidas added one goal each. The triumph marked India’s first Asia Cup win after a gap of eight years.

Captain Harpreet Singh, speaking on arrival in Amritsar, said the victory was the result of collective team effort. “Everyone put their whole heart into it, that’s why we could bring the trophy back after eight years,” he said.

He added that the team was preparing for other tournaments as well, including the Pro-League. Harpreet also expressed solidarity with flood-affected people in Punjab, saying the players often discussed the situation during the tournament.

“Now that we are back, we will stand with Punjab. If Waheguru has shown us these days, he will also show the way. But for this, everyone needs to come together,” he said.
