India raises concern with US over postponement of H1B visa interviews

New Delhi: The Indian government has taken the issue of mass postponement of pre-scheduled H1B visa interviews for Indian applicants very seriously with the United States.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it is in constant contact with US officials to reduce difficulties faced by Indian citizens. Earlier this month, thousands of interviews were abruptly deferred by several months, with new dates being scheduled only until May next year. The postponements are reportedly due to enhanced vetting of applicants’ social media posts and online profiles.

MEA spokesperson Randeep Jaiswal said many Indians are currently stranded in India without valid visas to return to the US, causing significant disruption to their jobs and families.

India has formally registered its protest with authorities in both Delhi and Washington. While visa regulations are considered an internal matter for any country, India stated that the sudden changes have caused unnecessary hardship for its citizens.
