New Delhi: India clinched their sixth ICC Under-19 World Cup title with a dominant 100-run victory over England in the final at the Harare Sports Club on Friday.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, India piled up a massive 411 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi starred with a sensational knock of 175 off just 80 balls, smashing 15 fours and 15 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 218.75. Captain Ayush Mhatre provided solid support with a composed half-century. For England, Sebastian Morgan and Alex Green picked up two wickets each.
Chasing a daunting target of 412, England were bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs. Caleb Faulkner fought hard with a blistering 115 off 67 balls, but his effort was not enough to keep England in the contest. R S Ambrish led India’s bowling attack with three wickets, while Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chauhan claimed two wickets apiece.
England lost their final wicket in the 41st over, sealing a comprehensive win for India and underlining their dominance in the tournament as they lifted the Under-19 World Cup trophy for a record sixth time.
