New Delhi: IndiGo CEO Peter Albers on Saturday said the airline expects to cancel fewer than 1,000 flights as it attempts to restore normal operations following one of the worst disruptions in its history. He added that the situation is likely to return to normal between December 10 and 15.
In a video message, Albers apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused over the past few days. “Regrettably, the initial measures of the last few days did not prove to be enough. So we decided to reboot all our systems and schedules today, which resulted in the highest-ever flight cancellation but was necessary for progressive reforms starting tomorrow,” he said.
Albers added that improved clarity from aviation regulator DGCA regarding the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) was helping the airline stabilise operations. The DGCA has put on hold the second-phase implementation of the revised FDTL norms, flaws in which were cited as one of the main reasons for the widespread operational disturbances.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, typically operates around 2,300 flights a day.
