IndiGo flight crisis enters sixth day, over 220 flights cancelled at Delhi and Mumbai

New Delhi: The IndiGo flight crisis continued for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday, with more than 220 flights cancelled at Delhi and Mumbai airports. Aviation authorities said efforts were underway to stabilise operations after days of widespread disruptions.

According to sources, at least 112 flights were cancelled at Mumbai airport and 109 at Delhi airport.

Hundreds of flights have been cancelled or delayed in recent days, affecting thousands of passengers nationwide.

On Friday, IndiGo cancelled nearly 1,600 of its 2,300 scheduled daily flights—one of the largest single-day disruptions recorded by the airline. The situation showed some improvement on Saturday, with cancellations dropping to around 800.

Meanwhile, IndiGo CEO Peter Albers and COO and Responsible Manager Nicolas Porqueires received notices from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), seeking clarification within 24 hours regarding the large-scale disruptions.

IndiGo, in a statement, said the decision to operate only 700 flights on Friday was aimed at resetting its “network, systems and rosters” to restore stability. “The main objective was to reset operations so that we could start afresh with more flights on Saturday. There are early signs of improvement,” the airline said.

The DGCA continues to monitor the situation as efforts are made to normalise flight schedules.
