IndiGo suspends Mumbai–Copenhagen flights, cuts Europe services citing operational disruptions

New Delhi: IndiGo on Wednesday announced major changes to its long-haul operations, citing external operational disruptions, including uncertainty in Iranian airspace and congestion at international airports. As part of the decision, the airline will suspend its Mumbai–Copenhagen service from February 17 until further notice.

In a statement, IndiGo said prolonged flight times due to rerouting and airspace restrictions have significantly impacted the utilisation and schedules of its six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The airline said the temporary suspension and frequency cuts were necessary to stabilise operations and ensure schedule reliability.

Apart from Copenhagen, IndiGo has also reduced frequencies on its Delhi–London Heathrow and Delhi–Manchester routes. Flights on the Delhi–Manchester sector will operate only three times a week from February 19, while services to London Heathrow have been reduced to four flights per week.

The airline has already cancelled flights to several Central Asian and Caucasus destinations — including Tbilisi, Almaty, Tashkent and Baku — until February 28, as it is currently unable to use Iranian airspace on these routes.

IndiGo said the measures were taken to minimise delays, disruptions and inconvenience to passengers amid factors beyond the airline’s control. It added that affected customers would be informed and offered assistance in line with its policies.

The airline said it continues to closely monitor the situation and will reassess services as operational conditions improve.
