Tampa: Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has said his country is “deeply grateful” to former US President Donald Trump, whose strategic leadership, he claimed, “averted many other wars in India and Pakistan as well as in the world.”
Munir made the remarks while addressing the Pakistani diaspora community in Tampa, Florida.
Reiterating his anti-India stance, Munir described Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein” and asserted that it was “not an internal matter of India but an incomplete international agenda.” He cited Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, saying Kashmir was “the vein of Pakistan’s throat.”
Munir’s comments come weeks after he had said Pakistan would not forget the Kashmir issue, a statement India had rejected.
His visit marks his second trip to the US in one-and-a-half months, which he called a sign of “new heights” in bilateral relations. He also said a trade agreement with the US is expected to bring large-scale investments to Pakistan.
