New Delhi: Indonesia will impose restrictions on social media use for children under the age of 16, the country’s minister for communication and digital affairs Meutya Hafid said on Friday.
Hafid said she has signed a new government regulation that will prevent children below 16 from holding accounts on several high-risk digital platforms. The rule is aimed at strengthening online safety for minors.
Under the regulation, children under 16 will not be allowed to create or maintain accounts on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
The Indonesian government said the move is intended to protect children from online risks and ensure safer digital engagement for younger users.
