Chandigarh: Disturbed by what she termed as the “haste by the Chandigarh Police” in conducting the post-mortem of her husband, Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar alleged that the police “insulted the body and showed no dignity” while handling it.
In an interview, Amneet P Kumar said, “The Chandigarh Police did not show any respect to my deceased husband, who belonged to the Dalit community. I agreed to the post-mortem but categorically said that the children would pay their last respects to their father before the body was taken for formalities. However, the police ignored this and took the body from the hospital despite the absence of family members.”
Calling herself a Dalit widow “being denied dignity in handling her husband’s body,” Amneet said angrily, “Now the responsibility lies with the Chandigarh Police. If the family’s consent is so irrelevant, let them do what they wish with the body. I have maintained my dignity by remaining silent so far, but the matter is now completely out of hand. What was the hurry? Let the Chandigarh Police know about their behaviour.”
