Jagdeep Dhankhar reapplies for MLA pension after resigning as Vice President

New Delhi: Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has reapplied to the Rajasthan Assembly Secretariat for pension as a former MLA.

Dhankhar served as a Congress MLA from Kishangarh between 1993 and 1998 and was receiving pension until July 2019. The pension was discontinued when he was appointed Governor of West Bengal in the same month.

Following his abrupt resignation from the post of Vice President on July 21, Dhankhar has now reapplied for pension benefits. The Assembly Secretariat has initiated the process, and he will begin receiving pension from the date of acceptance of his resignation.

Under Assembly rules, pension for former MLAs begins after completion of their legislative term. However, it is discontinued if they take up ministerial or government posts, with the Secretariat being informed through a prescribed format.

Once such terms end, former MLAs can reapply to restore their pension. Dhankhar has applied under the same procedure.
