Jalandhar: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Karun Dheer, a clerk posted in the water supply and sewerage branch of Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, for accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000. During a search of his residence, the vigilance team also recovered Rs 2.72 lakh in cash. A case has been registered against him under the anti-corruption law, and investigations are underway.
According to a spokesperson of the state vigilance bureau, the arrest was made following a complaint from a resident of Ram Nagar, Jalandhar. The complainant has been running a compound near Doaba Chowk in Jalandhar for the past 15 months.
The complaint alleged that Karun Dheer visited the compound and accused the resident of using an illegal water connection and discharging wastewater into the sewer. Using this as a pretext, he allegedly threatened to disconnect the water and sewer connections.
The vigilance bureau has been actively carrying out anti-corruption operations across the state.
