Progressive Media Forum sweeps polls, wins all nine posts
Jalandhar: Jaspreet Singh Saini, news editor at Ajit Group and candidate of the Progressive Media Forum, has been elected the new president of the Punjab Press Club, Jalandhar. He assumed charge late in the evening in the presence of election officers Dr Lakhwinder Singh Johal, Dr Kamlesh Singh Duggal and Kuldeep Singh Bedi, along with former president Satnam Singh Manak.
Saini won the presidential election by a massive margin of 306 votes. Of the 441 votes polled, he secured 348 votes. His rivals Jatinder Sharma and S K Saxena managed only 42 and 35 votes respectively, while 61 votes were declared invalid.
Led by Saini, the Progressive Media Forum registered a clean sweep by winning all nine posts of the club. Three candidates of the forum — Shiv Sharma (treasurer), Rajesh Thapa (senior vice-president) and Tejinder Kaur Thind (vice-president) — were elected unopposed earlier.
Elections were held for six posts, including president. Punit Sehgal was elected general secretary with 348 votes, defeating Jatinder Sharma who received 77 votes. Mandeep Sharma and Parmjit Singh Rangpuri were elected vice-presidents with 319 and 285 votes respectively. Rajesh Yogi won the secretary’s post with 363 votes, while his rival Amarjit Singh got 61 votes. Sukrant was elected joint secretary with 305 votes, defeating Narinder Gupta who polled 120 votes.
Polling began at 9 am and continued till 3 pm under the supervision of returning officers Dr Johal, Dr Duggal and Kuldeep Singh Bedi. Results were announced late in the evening and winning candidates were issued certificates.
Supporters of the Progressive Media Forum celebrated the victory with flower garlands and bhangra beats as the newly elected team emerged from the conference hall. The winning team later met Ajit Group editor-in-chief Dr Barjinder Singh Hamdard and sought his blessings. Dr Hamdard congratulated the team and wished them success for the future.
