JMM leader Shibu Soren passes away at 81, three-day state mourning in Jharkhand

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supremo and former chief minister Shibu Soren passed away at the age of 81 on Sunday. He had been unwell for some time.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren confirmed the news of his father’s demise in a post on X. In his honour, the Jharkhand government has declared a three-day state mourning and cancelled all official programmes scheduled during this period.

According to an official statement, all state government offices will remain closed on August 4 and 5. The national flag will also be flown at half-mast on all government buildings across the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and several other political leaders have expressed their condolences on the passing of the veteran tribal leader.
