Chandigarh: A Mohali court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of former minister and Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia by 14 days in a disproportionate assets case. He will remain lodged in Nabha’s New Jail till September 20.
Majithia was to appear before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Hardeep Singh but joined the proceedings through video conferencing from Nabha jail. Government and defence lawyers were present during the hearing.
The Akali leader was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau from his Amritsar residence on June 25 and later brought to Mohali. He was initially remanded in police custody till July 6 before being shifted to Nabha’s New Jail.
The Vigilance has filed a 40,000-page challan against him, a copy of which has been shared with the defence. Earlier, on July 11, a Mohali court had also heard Majithia’s petition seeking change of barrack in jail.
