Chandigarh: An incident took place around 6 pm on Monday during the ongoing Kabaddi Cup in Sohana when Shakarpur Kabaddi team promoter Rana Balachauria was shot by unidentified assailants.
Harjeet Singh Bholu, patron and promoter of the sports club, confirmed the incident and said that the shooting occurred in the car park. He said Rana Balachauria was shot in the head at close range and his condition was critical.
Balachauria was rushed to a private hospital by his colleagues. Police reached the spot soon after and an investigation is underway.
It is learnt that the victim had got married only a few days ago. Following the incident, chaos prevailed at the venue and the organisers cancelled the tournament.
