Kinnaur Kailash Yatra suspended, 413 pilgrims rescued after heavy rain damages route

Kinnaur: The Kinnaur Kailash Yatra in Himachal Pradesh has been suspended after heavy rainfall washed away two temporary bridges on the trekking route, leaving hundreds of pilgrims stranded. Officials said on Wednesday that 413 pilgrims have been rescued so far.

The bridges at Tanglipi and Kangrang were swept away due to a sudden rise in water levels in nearby rivers. Following a tip-off about the stranded pilgrims, the Kinnaur district administration coordinated with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to launch rescue operations.

Videos shared by the ITBP on X showed rescue teams helping pilgrims cross the swollen rivers using a zipline.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and have urged people to avoid the affected route until further notice.
