London: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the squad for the fourth Test, with left-arm spinner Liam Dawson returning to the team after eight years. Dawson replaces off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, who has been ruled out of the remaining two matches of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy due to injury.

Bashir was injured while fielding a shot from Ravindra Jadeja during the third Test at Lord’s and will miss the rest of the series.

Dawson, 35, last played a Test for England in July 2017 and has featured in only three Tests so far. However, he has been a consistent performer for Hampshire, winning the Professional Cricketers’ Association Player of the Year award in 2023 and 2024.

In the recent County Championship, Dawson took 21 wickets in nine matches at an average of 40.04, and in the Vitality Blast, he picked up 11 wickets in 10 matches.

“Liam Dawson has made his place. His performance in the County Championship has been excellent and he has been playing consistently well for Hampshire,” national selector Luke Wright said.
