Chandigarh: Punjab marked the festival of Lohri on Monday with traditional fervour across cities and villages. On the occasion, an official Lohri programme was held at Punjab Lok Bhawan in Chandigarh, where Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini were seen together.
During the event, Bhagwant Mann and Nayab Singh Saini warmly embraced each other, a moment that was captured in photographs and widely shared.
From early morning, Lohri celebrations were visible across Punjab, with people flying kites from rooftops in cities and villages. A festive atmosphere prevailed in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Mohali and Chandigarh, among other places. However, in Amritsar, a video surfaced showing youths allegedly indulging in celebratory aerial firing while flying kites on a rooftop. The entire incident was caught on camera.
The festival also took on a political tone. The Punjab Congress shared an AI-generated video on social media, taking a swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party government over its promise of providing ₹1,000 per month to women.
Elsewhere, Cabinet minister Baljit Kaur participated in Lohri celebrations in Malout. In Mohali, Punjabi singer Mankirt Aulakh entertained the crowd with a live performance. Students at Panjab University in Chandigarh were seen dancing to Punjabi songs as part of the celebrations.
