Lok Sabha forms committee to probe allegations against Allahabad High Court judge

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday announced the formation of a three-member committee to investigate allegations against Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Verma.

The panel will be headed by jurist Acharya and will include Supreme Court judge Arvind Kumar, Madras High Court Chief Justice Maninder Mohan Srivastava, and Karnataka High Court jurist B.V. Ramana.

Birla said the impeachment motion against Justice Verma, signed by 146 MPs, would remain in abeyance until the committee submits its report.

The announcement came when the Lower House reassembled at 12 noon after an adjournment.

On July 21, the first day of the monsoon session, several MPs had submitted a memorandum to the Speaker seeking Justice Verma’s removal.
