Ludhiana: The mobile phone of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sumit Sood of the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate has been hacked, with fake WhatsApp messages being sent to several people from his number.
The messages falsely claim that recipients’ challans have been issued and ask them to click a link to make payment. The matter came to light after several people, including media persons, received such messages and suspected fraud.
ACP Sood, who is posted in Ludhiana East, has been on leave for the past two days and is currently out of town. He clarified that he has no connection with the traffic police. When people received the fake challan messages, they attempted to contact him, but his phone remained unreachable.
According to reports, the messages have been sent to inspectors, other officers, and even a retired inspector. The retired officer, upon failing to reach ACP Sood, informed SHO Division Number 7, Inspector Gagandeep Singh.
Inspector Gagandeep Singh said they have received information about the incident and the case is being referred to the cyber cell for further investigation.
