Toronto: Ludhiana-based gangster Navpreet Dhaliwal was shot dead in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, after assailants allegedly opened fire inside a house on January 9.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) made Dhaliwal’s identity public on Saturday. Police said he had been on the radar of law enforcement agencies and was linked to the ongoing gang conflict in British Columbia. Investigators have described the incident as a targeted killing.
Meanwhile, gangsters Donny Bal and Mohabbat Randhawa have claimed responsibility for the murder.
According to IHIT, at around 12.38 pm on January 9, Abbotsford Police Department received reports of a shooting in the 3200 block of Siskin Drive. Responding officers found a man critically injured at the scene.
Teams from BC Emergency Health Services attempted to provide emergency medical care, but Dhaliwal succumbed to his injuries at the spot. The investigation was subsequently handed over to IHIT.
Police said the probe is ongoing, and efforts are being made to identify all those involved in the killing.
