New Delhi: Bengaluru police have arrested 26-year-old Gurdeep Singh for allegedly filming women without their consent at crowded places in the city and posting the videos online. The incident came to light after a student from Bengaluru saw a video of herself on a social media page that claimed to show street scenes from areas like Church Street and Koramangala.
The student said the video was shot without her knowledge and in an inappropriate manner. Despite reporting the clip and requesting its removal, no action was taken, and she began receiving obscene messages from strangers after the video went viral.
In a video posted on Instagram to spread awareness, the student said, “This man pretends to film the surroundings of Church Street, but in reality, they only record women without their consent.”
The Instagram account in question reportedly had over 10,000 followers and contained videos of several women who appeared shocked or unaware that they were being filmed.
After being unable to tag the video-sharing page directly, the complainant tagged the @blrcitypolice and @cybercrimecid accounts in her post, following which the police took up the case and arrested Singh.
