Chandigarh: Two real brothers were shot at by their own friends in Punjab’s Amritsar district, leaving one dead and the other critically injured, police said.
The incident took place in village Bal Kalan. The accused allegedly fired at point-blank range, shooting Simranjit Singh (22) in the chest, killing him on the spot. His brother Kabal Singh sustained gunshot injuries to his leg and is undergoing treatment in hospital.
Police said all those involved belong to the same neighbourhood and had a dispute a few days ago following an argument. To resolve the issue, members of both groups gathered at a community place in the village on Tuesday evening. After prolonged discussions, one group allegedly pulled out a pistol and opened fire.
Kabal Singh said the attackers shot Simranjit in the chest and then fired multiple rounds at him. Hearing the gunshots, local residents rushed to the spot and the injured brothers were taken to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar, where doctors declared Simranjit dead.
Police said a case has been registered and teams are searching for the accused. Further investigation is underway.
