Mumbai: Mumbai witnessed high drama on Thursday afternoon after more than 20 children were rescued from captivity at RA Studios near the L&T building in Powai. The children, who had been called for auditions, were taken hostage by a man identified as Rohit Arya.
According to officials, police, commandos, and fire brigade teams launched a swift operation to rescue the children. During the operation, accused was reportedly shot by a policeman. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but died while undergoing treatment.
Joint Commissioner of Police Satyanarayana said that all the children were rescued safely. Another official confirmed that Rohit Arya has been detained and appears to be mentally unstable.
Earlier, Arya had released a video on social media saying he initially planned to commit suicide but later decided to hold the children captive instead. In the video, he said he was not a terrorist and wanted to talk to certain people and ask them questions.
