New Delhi: The zonal unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested the mastermind in a customs duty evasion case worth Rs 189 crore.
Officials said the fraud was carried out to avoid tax on imported goods, with the accused using firms owned by dummy owners to bypass duties.
In an attempt to fulfil export obligations, counterfeit goods made from external materials were recovered in addition to duty-free imported goods.
The accused was produced before the court, and further interrogation by the DRI is underway.
