Jalandhar: Rural Police have arrested the main accused in a sacrilege incident reported at a gurdwara in Mahal village under the Goraya police station area.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh Virk said DSP Phillaur Bharat Masih and Goraya SHO Sikandar Singh reached the spot and analysed CCTV footage to identify the person involved in the incident.
The SSP said the CCTV cameras inside the gurdwara hall were not functional. However, footage from cameras installed outside helped police establish that the accused is a minor, a Class 10 student. He has been apprehended and a case has been registered in accordance with the law.
The incident took place at the gurdwara in Mahal village on Tuesday at around 4.45 pm. A woman identified as Jaspreet Kaur opened the gurdwara in the evening, following which the sacrilege came to light. She later informed the police about the incident.
SSP Virk said all legal procedures are being followed and every aspect of the case is being thoroughly investigated. He also assured that the situation in the area is completely peaceful and under control.
