Chandigarh: Navneet Chaturvedi, accused in an alleged fraud related to the Rajya Sabha by-election, was arrested by the Punjab Police after 8 pm on Wednesday. He was taken into custody from the Sector 3 police station in Chandigarh and transported to Ropar. The Punjab Police had been stationed outside the police station since Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, the Punjab Police had taken Chaturvedi to the High Court, where his petition was heard. The court issued a notice to the Punjab government, seeking its response by November 4, and directed that orders for his arrest be executed.
Meanwhile, the Ropar court took a firm stance on Chaturvedi’s custody, stating that his arrest warrant had already been issued and must be complied with by the Chandigarh SSP court.
The court also sought a reply within four days from SHO Narendra Patiyal of Sector 3 police station regarding the grounds on which Chaturvedi was kept in custody.
