New York: Mayor Zoharan Mamdani has written a note to activist Umar Khalid, recalling Khalid’s words on “bitterness” and the importance of not letting it weigh one down.
The handwritten note, signed by Mamdani, was shared on X by Khalid’s partner Banojotsna Lahiri. Posting the note, Lahiri wrote in the caption, “When prisons try to isolate, words travel. Zoharan Mamdani wrote to Umar Khalid.”
In the note, Mamdani wrote, “Dear Umar, I often think about your words on bitterness and the importance of not letting it weigh on you. It was a pleasure meeting your parents. We are all thinking of you.”
The note has since drawn attention on social media, with several users sharing messages of solidarity with Khalid.
