NIA files chargesheet against four in Jalandhar grenade attack on former Punjab minister Manoranjan Kalia

Jalandhar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against four accused in connection with the grenade attack on the residence of former Punjab minister and BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia. The attack occurred on the night of April 7 this year in Jalandhar.

The chargesheet names two arrested accused — Saidul Amin of Amroha (Uttar Pradesh) and Abhijot Jangra of Kurukshetra (Haryana) — and two absconders, Kulbir Singh Sidhu of Yamunanagar and Manish alias Kaka Rana of Karnal. All have been booked under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Explosives Act.

According to the investigation, Kulbir Singh, a member of the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), along with his associate Manish alias Kaka Rana, formed a terror module to intimidate prominent politicians in Punjab and extort money. The gang had tasked Saidul Amin with executing the grenade attack, while Abhijot Jangra provided financial assistance.

After the attack, Kulbir Singh released a poster claiming responsibility for the conspiracy. A Red Corner Notice has been issued against him, and a reward of ₹10 lakh has been announced for his arrest.

Kulbir Singh had earlier been chargesheeted in the murder case of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar (RC-06/2024/NIA/DLI). The NIA said it is intensifying efforts to arrest the absconding accused and identify other members of the BKI network.
