New Delhi: The probe into the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), officials said on Tuesday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened another high-level security review meeting to assess the situation.
The Delhi Police has registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act in connection with the explosion that occurred near the Red Fort on Monday evening. Officials said the death toll has risen to 12.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that the blast wires were linked to a terror module earlier unearthed in Faridabad. Multiple raids have been conducted across the national capital in search of suspects.
Following the incident, Delhi has been placed on high alert with heightened security at airports, railway stations and bus terminals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Bhutan, said the perpetrators will not be spared. Speaking at an event in Thimphu, PM Modi said, “The conspirators behind Monday’s car blasts in Delhi will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice. The horrific incident that took place in Delhi last evening has saddened everyone. I understand the pain of the bereaved families. Today, the whole country stands with them.”
He added that he had been in touch with the investigating agencies throughout the night and assured that the government will uncover the conspiracy behind the attack.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his condolences and assured the public that those responsible will be brought to justice.
