Goa: Authorities in Goa on Sunday sealed the Romeo Lane Shack at Vagator Beach after a massive fire at the nightclub killed at least 25 people. Officials said the structure had been built illegally on government land.
District authorities inspected the shack in the evening and closed it soon after. Sources said the establishment was operating without proper approvals.
Earlier, the police registered an FIR against two owners, the manager and the event organisers of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub. The sarpanch of the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat has also been detained for questioning. A senior official said chief minister Pramod Sawant has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight at the nightclub, which opened last year at a popular party spot in Arpora village, nearly 25 km from Panaji. At least 25 people are confirmed dead, including four tourists and 14 staff members, while seven victims are yet to be identified.
