New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday resigned from the membership of the Bihar Legislative Council following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
His resignation was submitted to the Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh by MLC Sanjay Gandhi, along with minister Vijay Choudhary.
Vijay Choudhary said the move was part of a constitutional process. “The Chief Minister has been elected to the Rajya Sabha, so he was required to resign from the Legislative Council,” he said.
Following the resignation, minister Ashok Choudhary appeared emotional, while Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav alleged that Kumar was forced to step down under pressure from the BJP.
Meanwhile, BJP national president Nitin Naveen also resigned, with his resignation submitted to Assembly Speaker Dr Prem Kumar by Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi. Naveen had handed over his resignation before leaving for Assam.
